Statues of Percival and Yamashita

At the end of the tunnel after the lobby are the statues of Lieutenant General Percival and Lieutenant General Yamashita, the two top-ranking officers of the British and Japanese armies in Singapore respectively.

The description of General Percival beside his statue provides visitors with a brief history of his life. As for General Yamashita, visitors can learn of his appearance at the time of the surrender through the description by a British officer who first met him at the Old Ford Motor Factory. While the descriptions differ in type, with Percival's focusing on his life and Yamashita's focusing on his appearance, visitors can get a better idea of how the two generals were like.

The descriptions also provide us with a feel of how the two generals were like. The impression that we had of General Percival was a gentle person who chose to organise his forces from behind the frontlines. On the other hand, General Yamashita projected a fierce and commanding presence who chose to be closer to his soldiers.
