British Surrender

From this major historical event that took place at Ford Factory, our team has learnt that any decision, whether big or small, will have its effects. In this case, the surrender led to the Japanese Occupation, widely believed to be the darkest period of Singapore history. Granted, the British had no choice when they made this decision back in 1942. However, it can still provide us with some learning points.

The verse on this stone helps visitors understand the purpose of learning history

We make many decisions everyday, but we usually fail to consider the effects of our decisions before we make them. Anticipating and avoiding potential mistakes are some of the benefits of good decision making. While this is not always possible, we must try our best to understand a situation and think of the possible effects before making a decision so as to minimise any possible repercussions or even avoid them altogether. The next time you make a decision, take into consideration the effects of that decision and think carefully: Are you doing the right thing?
